Sandy Bridge is the 2nd generation of Intel Core-I Processors. The result of it's many specific, technical improvements is a 20-25% increase in speed over Intel's older Core-i3, Core-i5 and Core-i7. Processors.

  • Turbo Boost 2.0
    • Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology improves upon the earlier version of Core-I technology by making it faster overall and expanding the available boosts in speed to the Graphics Chipset in addition to the CPU. If you're running an application that requires more graphics horsepower, the Sandy Bridge i3 and i5 CPUs will detect that requirement automatically and provide additional turbo boost to the onboard Graphics Chip. A Core i5 or Core i7 with Turbo Boost technology can boost a 2.3GHz processor up to 3.3GHz.

    Integrated Memory Controller    The IMC now handles 2 Channel DDR3 RAM, 2 DIMMS Per channel for up to speeds of 1333. There is also new support for SO-DIMM Type memory.

    HD Graphics 2000/3000
    The Onboard Graphics are even faster than before.

    Intel Quick Sync Video    New Performance enhancement. Encoding, Transcoding and Decoding are handled more quickly and effiicently, making mutlimedia tasks such as iTunes run much faster.
